Jah
Rootikal Steppers - Jah Rootikal Steppers
DUBROOM
MP3 ALBUM REVIEW |
WWW,
April 2014 - Jah Rootikal knows his Reggae.
Jah Rootikal knows his Dub. Jah Rootikal
knows his Steppers! With his self-titled début
album, the UK based producer delivered a
magnificent piece of artistical work. Or
should it be: works? Twelve titles filled
with love for the music, love for the sound,
love for the Dub. One Love!
For the
music on the album, Jah Rootikal got
together with a number of musicians he knows
from his long time involvement in playing
and producing music. Vocals, melodica,
conga, nuff stuff. The result: a combination
of played and programmed materials,
everything skillfully mixed into Dub works
in the UK Dub style avant la lettre.

UPTOWN
REBEL- RANDOM ROAD
DUBROOM
MP3 ALBUM REVIEW |
WWW,
April 2014 - Three years after his debute
album, Uptown Rebel returns in the year 2014
with a heavyweight nine-track DUB album.
With collaborations by Dub Machinist, Sammy
Gold and Zion UK, Random Road has become a
more than pleasant work of DUB Art.
Electronic
DUB Art, that is. In a Roots Reggae Style.
The opening
track, featuring Sammy Gold at the
microphone is an easy going One Drop style
Roots tune, with conscious lyrics for your
heart and soul to meditate upon. During the
massive Dub version, for example. Bredda
Sammy surely has a message for each and
everyone to take heed while Uptown Rebel has
the riddim and the Dub mixing skills to
accompany it just in style.

Bass
Culture Players - Temple Riddim EP
DUBROOM
MP3 ALBUM REVIEW |
WWW,
August 2013 - Two (Spanish) Vocal tracks,
one instrumental (with horns) and one hard
hitting DUB: here is the full contents of
the excellent Temple Riddim EP by the
Spanish based Bass Culture Players.
Heavyweight Steppers of the excellent kind
fe true!
Originally
released in 2012 through Creative Commons,
this hard-hitting steppers tune can not be
absent in the collection of the self
respecting collector of the better quality
(online) DUB. It can't be absent in the
Dubroom's online collection of CC-released
material either. This is pure EuroDub and
Roots: electronic, analogue, full of vibes
and consciousness.
The two
spanish vocal tracks may not be understood
by non-Spanish speaking folks like your's
truly but it is immideatly overstood
how the lyrics have to do with upright
stuff. The horn version vaguelly resembles a
Vibronics track but not really. Gotta hear
it to experience!
If only for
the heavyweight, hard-hitting DUB of this
militant Steppers riddim called
"Temple", the Bass Culture Players
deserve more than our respect. They deserve
our support!

VARIOUS
ARTISTS - Roots
'n' Future - Dubplates For Powerfull System
Volume 1
DUBROOM
MP3 ALBUM REVIEW |
WWW,
September 2012 - If only for the
hard-hitting "Business of War" and
it's even harder hitting DUB version, you
just have to download this 2010 release by
the Swiss based Audioactivity
Net Label who brought us such excellent
compilations as DUB Propaganda and DUB
Disaster 1 and 2.
As a matter of fact, Roots 'n' Future is a
project and collective based around the
drummer of the band High Note, Dino. When
this is the first of many Dubplates for
Powerfull System, it's a very promising one.
There's a wide variety of styles on the
album, even some Dubstep tracks that you may
or may not like. Those with a focus on
Steppers DUB will definitely want to check
out the album, in fact every lover of DUB
Reggae should.

Guitoud
- Conscious Rasta
DUBROOM
MP3 ALBUM REVIEW |
WWW,
September 2012 - Straight from the
French (DUB) Reggae underground, this very
interesting one filled with eleven titles
all starting with the letter C. C as in
Conscious, even though there are hardly any
lyrics in this no-nonsense instrumentalist
Reggae album.
"Conscious Rasta" is indeed
interesting for a variety of reasons. Much
thought has been put in the music, both in
the samples as well as the (excellent)
instrumentation and overall concept. Expect
an album that is filled with intelligence
and style, as you listen to the
instrumentals with nuff Dub effects here and
there you will definitely recognize the
amount of work that has been put in it.
